The Aklan Provincial Tourism Office (APTO) said that the island resort of Boracay has generated P15.85 billion in income from tourist arrivals in the past eight months this year.
From January to August 2012, APTO recorded a total of 862,121 domestic and foreign tourists in the island resort.
APTO records show that domestic tourists, which visited Boracay Island during the eight-month period this year reached 440,465 compared to their foreign counterparts recorded at 325,498.
Records also show that 96,158 overseas Filipinos took their vacation in the resort island.
But APTO data show that Boracay’s income from tourism receipts slid down to P800 million during the first eight months this year from P16.71 billion during the same period last year.
But with the positive trend in the tourism industry and the increase in tourist arrivals in the province of Aklan, the provincial government is optimistic to attain the target goal of one million tourist arrivals during the four remaining months before the end of year 2012.
