Stocks end day on the red; peso moves sideways

The local bourse again ended on the red on Friday while the peso moved sideways still on investors’ risk aversion.

The composite index was down by 0.05 percent or 2.91 points to 5,292.06 points from day-ago’s 5,294.97 points.

The broader all shares index also declined by 21 percent or 7.35 points to 3,530.34 points from day-ago’s 3,537.69 points.

Most of the sectoral indices tracked the main index but the industrial and property indices registered gains.

Trading was thin at 897.89 million shares with value turnover totaling P5.54 billion.

Losers led gainers at 91 to 63 while 47 stocks were unchanged.

Meanwhile, the peso moved sideways after closing at P41.66 from day-ago’s P41.76.

It started the day at P41.70, weaker than the previous day’s P41.59 level.

It traded between P41.64 and P41.77, resulting to an average of P41.69 for the local unit.

Volume of trade reached US$ 928.3 million, higher than the previous day’s US$ 885.2 million.
