A new “love team” is set to conquer Kapamilya primetime.
Gerald Anderson and Cristine Reyes will be paired onscreen for the first time in an upcoming teleserye on ABS-CBN, according to actress Diana Zubiri, who will also be part of the soap.
“Ngayon po pwede po nila akong abangan sa primetime,” Zubiri told ABS-CBN News on Thursday, when she signed her contract as the newest Kapamilya talent.
“Makakasama ko po si Gerald Anderson at Cristine Reyes,” she added.
Before she went on hiatus from show business to finish her studies, Zubiri worked with Reyes in a number of projects on GMA-7.
The former sexy actress expressed excitement over her first acting project with Anderson. “Excited na excited po ako, kasi first time ko palang makakatrabho si Gerald, plus primetime po,” she said.
In August, reports on the planned team-up of Anderson and Reyes surfaced. Reyes was reportedly optioned to star opposite Anderson after the “Budoy” star’s TV project with former girlfriend Kim Chiu was allegedly put off.
‘Blessing’ for Cristine
Of the new team up, Reyes said any tandem is a “blessing,” regardless of her on-screen partner.
“Well, ako kahit sino naman ang makapareho ko, ‘di ba? Basta sa akin kahit ano ang dumating sa akin ay blessing ‘yon,” she said in an earlier interview.
Confirmation of Anderson and Reyes’ tandem comes after his recent falling out with Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo, for whom he has openly expressed admiration since their first film together under Star Cinema, “Catch Me, I’m In Love,” in 2011.
In August, Geronimo’s parents confirmed that the actor had stopped formally courting their daughter, citing their “rules” that may have discouraged the young actor from pursuing the 24-year-old singer.
In 2010, actor-dancer Rayver Cruz was romantically involved with Geronimo, until he was linked to Reyes, who is now his girlfriend.
It can be recalled that Geronimo and Reyes figured in a controversial spat over Cruz in the same year, when Reyes took to microblogging site Twitter to rant about a “drama princess,” later on identified to be Geronimo.
The two have since reconciled.
