Cop seriously injured after shot by robbers

A police Lance Corporal was seriously injured after being shot by robbers at a roadblock in Paloh, Gua Musang early Tuesday.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said in the 1am incident, Mohd Samsul Anuar Mohd Adnan, 27, from the Paloh police station, was shot in the chest.

He said the roadblock was set up after a robbery victim in Gua Musang reported that he had been robbed of cash, two BMW cars and a Honda Accord car.

“The shooting happened at the roadblock. The suspects tried to to make a U turn but one of the cars skidded and when several policemen tried to apprehend the occupants, they fired their weapons.

“Mohd Samsul Anuar was hit in the chest,” he told reporters when met outside the operating room of the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital HRPZII) where the Lance Corporal was undergoing emergency surgery. Also present was Kelantan deputy police chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim.

“We hope Mohd Samsul Anuar will come through… we will hunt down the suspects and catch them soon,” he said, adding that a manhunt was underway for them in the forest and estates surrounding the scene of the shooting .

“We have already recovered the cars, which they abandoned in their bid to escape the police. We have classified the case as attempted murder,” he said.

He added that he would be suggesting that Mohd Samsul Anuar be given a field promotion for his bravery.

Meanwhile, Mohd Samsul Anuar’s wife, Maisarah Kasim, 27, said she was informed on what had happened by a colleague of her husband.

She said her husband was on leave yesterday but was called back around midnight to set up the roadblock.

“I hope my husband will recover after the surgery. I have to accept the risks in his line of work as it is for the country,” she said.
