Filipinos in Kuwait are now gearing up for the arrival of the Philippine Azkals in Kuwait on Saturday at 1:40 pm (6:40 pm Manila time) via Gulf Air from Bahrain.
The Azkals are going up against Kuwait’s Al-Azraq National Football Team in a FIFA friendly match on Tuesday at the Kuwait Sports Club Stadium in Kaifan.
According to the Kuwait Football Association, the kick-off time will be at 6:50 p.m. and tickets priced at KD1, KD2 and KD3, will be available at the stadium’s box-office.
The Azkals are now in Bahrain for a friendly match with the Bahrain Football team on Friday after which the team will be flying off to Kuwait. The 39-man team delegation including Coach Michael Weiss and other officials will be arriving in Kuwait on Saturday, according to the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait.
Brothers James and Phil Younghusband will be rejoining the Philippine Men’s Football National Team in Kuwait after missing the Philippine Football Peace Cup last month.
On the other hand, Azkals team Manager Dan Palami and new recruit Demetrius Omphroy as well as striker Angel Guirado and goalkeeper Neil Etheridge will be arriving on Sunday on different flights.
Filipinos are excited to see some power-packed action between the Azkals and Al-Azraq as they hope to see a stronger Azkals this time to go up against Kuwait’s Al-Azraq.
“Sa tingin ko mas malaki ngayon ang chance ng mga Azkals na manalo, mas malakas ngayon ang line-up nila. Tapos magagaling din ang mga bagong recruit tulad nina Matthew Uy, Demet Omphroy, at ang bagong striker na si Denis Wolf. Mas maganda ang laban ngayon at saka mas okay ang panahon, hindi na mainit di tulad noong unang laban nila sa Kuwait noon,” Jonathan Perez, an avid Azkals fan, said.
It may be recalled that Kuwait’s Al-Azraq stopped the Azkals from its dream of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup last year. Over 15,000 Filipinos cheered for the Azkals in Qadsiya Stadium during the match.
In the upcoming FIFA friendly match between the two teams, Filipino fans expect the Azkals players to give Kuwait’s Al-Azraq National Football Team a head-on match on the field.
