The City Council of Taguig has recognized the “smartness and skills” displayed by local residents who have made their mark in Mathematics and biking competitions.

The city councilors have approved a resolution honoring the Math wizards of Senator Renato ‘Companero’ Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School (SRCCMSTHS), namely Joshua Cubales, Aljan Balbuena, Glaiza Marie Lipato and Carl Rey Maximo as well as “biker extraordinaire” Paulo Maala.

It can be recalled that the SRCCMSTHS Math wizards won the championship in the recent Sharp Calculators-MTGMath Trail and problem solving competition, beating 24 other private and public schools from Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Meanwhile, Maala was hailed king of the master executive division of the annual Mangaldan bikefest in Pangasinan after he showed tremendous fighting spirit in the last 800 meters of the 94-kilometer race.

Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano said the young Math whizzes and Maala will be honored for their achievements which have brought much glory to the people of Taguig.

“In particular, I’m pleased with the representatives of Senator Renato ‘Companero’ Memorial Science and Technology High School for showcasing the high quality of education here in Taguig,” Mayor Cayetano said.

This sentiment was echoed by Councilor Carlito Ogalinola, vice chairman of the Taguig City Council’s Committee on Education. It was Ogalinola who pushed for the resolution to honor the Math wizards.

“It is only right that we fete them so that other students would be motivated to study even harder,” Ogalinola said.
