The city government of Dumaguete through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is all set to celebrate this year’s Family Week from September 24 to 30 with various activities to highlight the celebration.
City Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria has urged different government agencies and religious groups in the city to participate in the celebration as a gesture of unity in strengthening family relationships.
The steering committee led by the CSWDO outlined different activities for the one week celebration, with this year’s theme “Ensuring Work-Family Balance”, according to Chairman George Gilvero.
On September 24, an Ecumenical Service will be held at Quezon Park at 1:30 p.m., to be followed by a short program and a street parade around the city’s main street, said City Information Officer Steve Gabriel.
On September 25, from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, the Kalipi Family Fun day is scheduled at the Women’s Center while an entrepreneurship training will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and in the afternoon, a symposium is set focusing on the theme held at the Women’s Center.
Other highlights include a Kapihan sa PIA forum and a Family dialogue on September 26, poster making contest, family counseling, and a medical and dental mission at the Quezon Park.
Meanwhile, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, commonly known as Mormons, headed by District President Brother Ferdinand Lantaca said the church every year participated in the city’s family week celebration celebrated every fourth week of September as mandated by Proclamation 60 which focuses on the importance of strengthening and promoting unity, solidarity and stability of the Filipino family as the basic unit of society.
Lantaca said their Church puts emphasis on the importance of the family as a pillar of the larger community.
