The Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (Minproba) has formally elected lady boxing promoter Yolanda “Yolly” Alfante as its new president during an election held Monday in Davao City.
Alfante, who succeeded the late Victor A. Quiambao, was earlier appointed as the interim president last summer. She will be inducted together with the other new officials on Aug. 25 at the Rizal Park during this year’s Kadayawan sa Dabaw festival boxing promotion.
Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will be invited as the inducting officer.
Also elected were Vicente Adriano as vice-president; Willie Neri, secretary; Alejandro “Boy Bilaan” Acojedo, treasurer; Leonil Nazarito, auditor; Lito delos Reyes, PRO; Mario Sumalinog, assistant PRO; Jung Wan Hwa, business manager; and Antonio Dacer, assistant business manager.
“We will try our best to revive boxing here in Davao and Mindanao” said Alfante.
The elections were witnessed by Games and Amusements Board (GAB) Southern Mindanao officer-in-charge Jimmy Mata and field officer Kenneth Improso.
Meanwhile, Jung Wan Hwa had donated US$ 100 to the family of the late Emerlito “Jog” Alim Jr. – Adriano’s boxer who died after collapsing during a fight held recently in Agusan.
The money was turned over to the GAB official, who will later give it to the family of Alim.
GAB also earlier turned over a check of P50,000 received by Alim’s father Emerlito Sr. and brother boxer Rosel.
Alfante, on the other hand, said eight-time world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao would also donate to Alim’s family.
