At least P500,000 worth of prizes are at stake in the Y101 Armscor Run on July 24 at the Asiatown IT Park in Barangay Lahug, Cebu City, organizers said.
Aside from having the longest distance of 10.1k, which represents the radio station Y101 FM ID, the run will have a 10.1 military style obstacle course.
Race director Kenneth Casquejo of Runcheck said they are keeping details of the obstacle course a secret to surprise the runners on race day.
“This represents an evolution in running and it will be fun,” said Jack Jakosalem, the president of Y101 FM station.
Though there is another run scheduled that day-the Kawasan marathon-the organizers are confident of getting a large turnout as they are targeting the “weekend runners,” while the elite and serious running buffs are expected to join the marathon.
Aside from the cash prizes worth P42,000 for the 10.1 (obstacle and non-obstacle), 5K and 1.01K, the top three finishers will also bring home cool prizes.
The top finisher in the men’s division of the 10.1K obstacle course will bring home P3,000 and an Armscor 1911A1 9-mm pistol worth P16,500, while the top lady finisher will take home P3,000 and a pink Tanfolio 22-caliber pistol that retails for P22,000.
The second placers in both categories will get P2,000 and an Armscor Airsoft rifle made in Italy worth P7,000, while the third placers will take home P1,000 and an Armscor air rifle worth P5,300.
Because of the prizes, organizers said they have received a lot of inquiries from the military and the police.
The non-obstacle course winners will also bring home cool prizes.
Aside from the P3,000 cash, the top finisher in the 10.1K will win a trip for two to Boracay plus a three-day and two-night stay. The accommodation and tickets for the winners are already worth P58,400.
The second placers will get P2,000 and a Myphone cellphone, while the third placer will get P1,000 and a Philips Go Gear Vibe.
Aside from that, the top runner in the 10.1K, whether male or female or whether in the obstacle or non-obstacle division — will bring home a Zongshen 110-CC motorcycle worth P55,000.
The 5K winners will also get P3,000 and a Philips HD Pocket Videocam worth P19,000, while the second and third placers will get P2,000 and P1,000, respectively, plus gadgets.
For the 1.01K division, the top runners will get P1,500 and a Philips Bluray DVD Player System.
Runners who miss out on the prizes will still get a chance to take home a Zongshen motorcycle, 19ll Ai .45 caliber pistol, two 12 megapixel cameras worth P17,200 each and 100 other items in the raffle.
Those who want to join the event may sign up at the Cebu City Sports Center, Runner and the Y101 studio at Gaisano Countrymall or online at www.y101fm.com.
